Nigerian e-passport photo specification
| Item | Size | File size | Format | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Passport photo | 600 × 800 px | Under 2 MB | Not stated (this tool exports JPG) | White background; face and ears uncovered; no headphones or mask; lighting neither too dark nor too bright; face centred. |
The image compliance page also notes ICAO relaxations for children under five, who need not look straight at the camera. NIS says applicants appear at their chosen office for photograph and biometric capture, so the upload is not the only photo taken. Always check the portal for the latest notice.

Tips for an e-passport photo that is accepted
- Look straight at the camera, face centred, with a neutral expression and both ears visible.
- Do not wear headphones, a mask or anything that covers the face.
- Use even light: not too dark and not so bright that the face washes out.
- Keep the head upright and fill the frame so the portrait is not tiny inside the 600×800 canvas.
- Start from a sharp original. The tool will keep the file well under 2 MB without cutting detail from the face.
