What Is a QR Code?
A QR (Quick Response) code is a two-dimensional barcode that stores information, like a website address, text, or contact details, in a pattern a camera can scan and decode instantly. Unlike a traditional barcode, which only holds a short number, a QR code can hold enough data for a full URL, a Wi-Fi password, or a complete contact card.

Types of QR Codes You Can Create
Website QR Code
Encodes a URL, scanning it opens that page directly in the phone's browser.
Text QR Code
Encodes any plain text, useful for instructions, quotes, or short messages that don't need a link.
Wi-Fi QR Code
Lets a phone join a Wi-Fi network by scanning, without anyone needing to type the password.
Email QR Code
Opens the phone's mail app with the address, and optionally a subject and message, pre-filled.
Phone QR Code
Prompts the phone to start a call to the encoded number.
Contact QR Code
Encodes a full contact card (name, phone, email, company), scanning it offers to save it directly to the phone's contacts.
How to Use a QR Code
Most modern phones can scan a QR code directly through the built-in camera app, no separate scanner app required. Pointing the camera at the code briefly shows a notification or link that, when tapped, performs the encoded action, opening a page, joining a network, starting a call, and so on.

How to Make a QR Code Scannable
- Keep strong contrast between the foreground and background colors.
- Print or display it large enough, a code that's too small is hard for a camera to focus on.
- Preserve the quiet zone, the white margin around the code, don't crop it tightly.
- Don't stretch or distort the code out of its square proportions.
- Don't overcrowd it with design elements or place it over a busy background image.
- Keep any logo small, if used, a logo that's too large can cover essential data modules.
- Always scan-test with a real phone before publishing or printing at scale.
Are QR Codes Permanent?
A static QR code, the kind this tool generates, contains its destination or content directly, encoded permanently into the image. If the encoded URL needs to change later, the QR code itself has to be regenerated and redistributed, the old printed copies would still point to the original content.
A dynamic QR code, offered by some other services, instead points to a redirect the service controls, letting the actual destination be changed later without reprinting the code, often alongside scan analytics. This Q3 Labs tool generates static QR codes only, it doesn't operate a hosted redirect or tracking service.
